Watertown WoolliesLanuda and Tapada llamas, otherwise known as Tampuli or woolly llamas, are much less common in the Uk than Ccara or Classic llamas.
They are characterised by hairy faces, ears, beards, top knots and eyebrows, with woolly trousers down to the ankles, and are much smaller and shorter than the less woolly Ccaras. In South America they are actually more common than the so called “classic” llama, but still an unusual sight in this country. With a particular passion for Tampulis my herd is becoming increasingly woolly ! Building on the bloodlines first developed in the UK by Paul Rose , I have followed in his footsteps all the way to Switzerland, and have chosen two very special Lanuda boys , Rossi and Benito, to be Watertowns newest stud males. In order to widen the gene pool for woolly llamas in this country even more , I have just been to Italy in search of some equally beautiful hairy ladies !! Rossi and Benito come from a specialist camelid breeder in Switzerland, who carefully selects and imports top quality llamas from South America.
The farm is at the foot of the alps where the animals enjoy huge freedom to roam in the summer, coming down to the foothills again in the autumn before the heavy snow falls.
The
Italian llamas also come from the foot of the mountains, the Dolomites
in the south tyrol, a very beautiful part of rural Italy. These Latin
ladies are bred by one of the top Italian Camelid judges, who selectively
breeds for unrivalled conformation, fine fleece, and exemplary temperament
as he uses his llamas extensively in animal assisted therapy as well as
for commercial trekking in the tourist industry. Italy 2009 Italian Stud Males
